and a screw loose!
a WOOD screw to be exact!
3/4 of an INCH!
IN our nine month old child!
we were the TYPICAL "first child" parents...
crazy NUTS about anything & everything...
never let her out of our SIGHT...
washed EVERYTHING that fell on the ground...
outlet covers... cupboards locked... furniture bolted to the wall...
the whole nine yards...
the whole enchilada...
for pete's sake... she was still sleeping right next to me...
you get the picture...
you know what i mean...
oh and this little turkey was walking!
so... we were headed to my cousin's home one night...
they had just moving into a dreamy home in the inner loop... Houston...
as we walked out the back door to leave... we LOCKED it...
with NO keys in our hands...
we were locked OUT of our home... NO way to get back in.
we could SEE them on the table... ugh
well... what does any hubby do when in this predicament?
why...
he lops the door handle right off!
since we were running late... we put the knob & parts right inside & we headed out!
fast forward to the next morning...
by this time i had forgotten ALL about the door thing...
i am sitting at the kitchen table (don't recall what the heck i was doing)...
when all of a SUDDEN a sheer panic over-comes me...
i jump up...
look over...
Campbell is right by the knob & parts putting something in her MOUTH...
i run like never before...
reach my finger in her little mouth...
can NOT get it...
SHEER TERROR...
i am SO afraid she is going to try & swallow it... don't want it to go sideways...
she swallows it!
i grab her... run like never before to my neighbor across the street who is a nurse...
SHEER TERROR...
thinking of it now... i'm not to certain why i ran over there...
i think was in total SHOCK...
run back home...
jump in the car and drive straight to the ER.
Daddy meets me there...
we wait...
x-rays are taken...
i will never forget the tech lady looking at us and saying as she finished...
"good luck to you"... with this LOOK on her face!
the ten minutes we probably waited felt like ten hours...
the doctor walks out WITH x-ray in hand...
LAUGHING...
and says...
she'll be just FINE...
it's all ready in her small intestine!
fast forward...
SURE enough within hours it was in her DIAPER!
thank you JESUS...
ya think it coulda been WAY worse!
we are VERY blessed!
we can NOW look back at this...
it STILL gives me chills...
BUT
we can look back & remember the doctor's smile
when the SHEER TERROR turned to SHEER THANKFULNESS!

Oh my goodness! I would have been in sheer terror too! Scary! Especially as a 'first time' mom! I would have reacted the same way!
I do have to say that when I was 6...not 6 months...6 years old, I swallowed a push pin (thumbtack)...I thought I was going to die...I had to use my baby sister's potty to make sure everything came out alright after our little visit to the ER...
I wonder how scared my parents were? ;)
OH NO!!! I would have freaked too and ran around aimlessly.
I hope it didn't hurt her on it's way out!
I tell you being parents is stressful! Because we love them so much we don't want them to be in pain or get hurt!
Amen, amen!! I bet you can never look at a screw the same way again!
My brother, remember we are 12 years apart, swallowed one of my small, gold shrimp earrings that I had taken off the night before and placed on my nightstand...sure enough, couple days later, there it was in his diaper! We love sharing that story w/his friends;)
oh my Gosh! This was funny! I'm glad it all "worked itself out" I would have been nervous too!!!
My younger sister always always put stuff in her nose - I remember at least 3 trips to the emergency room to get it out!
Oh - and my best friend Frederick when I was little - loved play doh - well he put a whole gob of it in his infant sister Anna-Leesa's mouth! It was awful - he didn't mean any harm though!!! She's fine though!
What a story.
Glad to hear that she was alright. But Sorry to hear that you had to look hat closely at her poop, yuk....
oh my goodness! I would've totally freaked too!
Oh My... I can't even think of what I would have done! glad everything came out all right! no pun intened! Have a great day! Oh and can you believe I'm still having issues with my internet, there coming out again tomorrow! wish my luck...

Holy cow. I would have FLIPPED. But thanks for sharing the x-ray picture, in hind-site... that's pretty darn funny.
oh my goodness.I know how many prayers you must have been saying while waiting..our children cause us "gray hair"LOL at a very young age.
Wow. That would have terrified me too! Isn't the human body amazing?? I've had to search for 2 pennies in my kids diapers in the past. QUITE fun!
What a miracle! Wow!
Smiles,
Jen
I am just dying a little inside, reading this....oh my gosh...
those little turkeys really make us crazy don't they?!
nothing can bring that fear in you like a child who is hurt or in pain. wow. it's pure adrenaline.
good story carissa.
got my blood going this morning. :)
Oh how I remember that day!! Actually... the fondest memories are how worried you were the day after waiting for it to pass. Yikes!!
