do you obsess?

i DO!
My sister & I obsess so much we always say...
"what are you obsessing about today"?
-------------------
Obsession :
To preoccupy the mind of excessively.
To think about something unceasingly or persistently;
dwell obsessively upon something.
--------------------
And over the silliest things!

How many times can you write your to-do list over again...
because you just do not like THE WAY IT LOOKS!

How many times can we really change clothes...
because it just DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT!

Oh and then the Facebook thing... I am OBSESSED!
Now if I could just find the TIME to get over there...
how many requests & notifications can sit there...
I know they're there... I'm coming! :)
I find myself thinking about WHO I can LOOK UP!
Consumed... but oh so neat to SEE everyone!
way cool... way OBSESSED!

How much can I fret over this piece.
I found it at a local shop... super deal... great bones...
for the guest room!
I became totally consumed with a mistake I made
with it... every time I walked in the room I got SO upset!
I took out the wrong shelf...
and in turn had to remove them both...
NOT what I had planned...
OBSESSED with making it RIGHT.

Then at night... while trying to fall asleep
that's when all the obsessions from the day HIT...

"oh my gosh... i forgot to respond to her email"
"oh my gosh... i have not ordered the party platter"
"i STILL have not sent out their bday presents"
"oh my gosh my brows are out of control"
"i cannot believe i ate all that spinach artichoke dip"

I'm starting to think it is an obsession...
about obsessing...
thinking everything has to be
JUST SO... PERFECT... all the time!
The mind can run wild with such UNIMPORTANT things!
Steering us away from what is really important!

Do guest REALLY care about what the furniture
is in that room... pleeeeease!

Does it really matter if I wear the brown OR black shoes...
or my brows are over-grown?

The fact I am wondering... pondering... called my sister
to ask her... if this post even makes sense!
OBSESSED!

Pleeeease do tell... do you ever OBSESS?

I'm learning to ask myself the all important question...

"How important is it?"

It's helping... a bit.

I totally get you on the facebook thing. total obsession.

Have a great Thursday.

Obsess....that's my middle name....My kids say I am a stalker when it comes to taking pictures. I think it is just an addiction I mean obsession....and doesn't everyone make sure the toilet paper is facing the same way on the roll all the time? Don't even get me going on the grocery list. I have to write everything in a certain category and if the kids or hubby add something in the wrong section, I have to re-write it..
freak, I know.

In a nutshell, yes. I also know some of the reasons why I am this way. Discovering the why of it helped me to control my own some of my worse obsessing habits. I no longer clean every bathroom in my house (there are 4 plus one half bathroom) to the point of wearing down the tiles and porcelain from so much scrubbing. That's what the lady that I have come to clean my house twice a week is for. I still think I can do the job better than she but that is neither here nor there. Things I haven't given up for example are waking up everyday at 5:20 and mopping all my floors to the degree that I can eat off of them before 6 in the morning. All this to say Carissa that we chose our battles and focus on those. Whether those battles are self imposed by our obsessive natures has no bearing upon the fact that we can't tackle everything. So what do I do? I prioritize obsessions. My top five are musts. My next five are possibilities. My last five are "if I get to them items." Over time I've gotten so much better at shutting off the little voice that worries at the ones I didn't get to. It's still hard however. I don't think it ever goes away entirely this need to have everything be a certain specific way that only I can achieve.

One can only try...

I hear you.

girl, I'm soooo obsessive! I write at least three to do lists every day and change clothes at least twice! And I lay in bed before I can fall asleep obsessing about things(especially things I forgot to do that day!). I also obsess over movies and music that I discover. I love watching the same movie over and over and listening to the same great cd over and over until I find another that I can be obsessed with! Right now, I'm totally obsessed with the tv show House. I rented a season on DVD and stayed up til almost 3 am watching it. And then rented another season the night before! It's all I want to do right now!

I OBSESS! I "NUKE" it as Dude says. I really love Facebook too - I've deleted my account a few times just b/c it got out of hand - and now I just don't care. If I can keep in touch with good people then I'm going to - so I don't deprive myself so much anymore.

Did you see that bumper sticker I sent you? HAHA - CDO 0 cause OCD needs to be alphabetized - hahah

I used to do that with all the cans in the cupboard and all my books.

I think you are amazing. OCD and all.

Ohhhhhh. The Facebook phenomenon. Such an addiction. Obsession. TIME-STEALER!!!

I obsess about lots of things...mostly what others think...horrible, horrible obsession to have. Trying hard to let go of that. Making progress, but still a daily struggle.

XO.

Thank you!!! For letting me know I'm not the only one who rewrite my to do list, or my grocery lists, over and over until it's just PERFECT! :) Of course, some days... I feel guilty for wasting all that paper...

I obsess over obsessing!! I keep a notepad by my bed for my late night obsessions. We need to start an obsessing support group.

i don't think i do....
but i am probably wrong.
i do some of these things but the next thought is usually "oh well." or "i will do it tomorrow" or "who cares"
but maybe that is still obsessing?
i think it's more lazy and procrastinating that i do.

i am sure this character trait is something people love about you because it has to have a good side also...detailed, prepared, concerned.
don't go changin' all at once. :)

I obsess. All. The. Time! It's the worst at night, when I'm trying to go to sleep - everything I need to do, everything I wish I'd done differently - just crowds in there until I make a conscious effort to release it all and relax.

Carissa, the question should be "when DON'T i obsess"!!!! and yep...nightime is the worst. Going over and over all the things I didn't get too or didn't do just right!! oooh it's all so silly...but just a part of who I am!!! xoxox...jenn

oh Carissa. I obsess about as much as you do. My sisters sister-in-law is an OCD expert in Boston and she says it is totally healthy to be obsessive as long as it doesn't ruin our daily lives.....ruin is such a harsh word, isn't it. It doesn't ruin it, but it sure takes up a lot of time......obsessing about obsessing.....

I'm with meg.
I could stand to obsess more.
especially about the house.
and the laundry.
and my girls' hair.

although I totally get you about taking out the wrong shelf and walking by it every time feeling like it just wasn't right. now I do obsess about stuff like that.

Your list hit home with me.....you know your obsessed when your thoughts go from one thing to another that are so random and don't go together. I've gotten a little better with age and as my kids have gotten older!

Side note: can't let the fuzzy bugs go......thats what we call eyebrows that need to be waxed!
